'Cinema of the Reel' is a video piece made especially for the Phantasmagoria show (see previous post).
Cinema of the Reel is about the transitory but fragile nature of the film medium. Shot on video via the manipulation of 16mm celluloid by human hands the pulsing heartbeat dictates the perfection of its delicate fallibility. As the shift from film to video as a popular medium marks its death led by consumerist actions, the analogue age segues in to the digital age. Where once there was life breeds only death and decay now for the format. Film, once seen as a route to freedom is now trapped by its digital limitations.
